- We believe that the very first words to learn reading are on these simple phonics word cards. Once these simple phonics cards becomes second nature, we offer sight word cards as the next step. While sight words is about memorizing non-intuitive words, phonics is about pronouncing different combinations of consonants and vowels to sound-out different words. We refer to consonants as "C" and vowels as "V" in the description below.
- The first 200 word cards focus on short vowel sounds. Included are 100 CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word cards, 64 CVCC word cards and 36 CCVC word cards. The second set of 200 word cards focuses on long vowel sounds and vowel teams.
- Word cards display one word per card. The word is presented on the front in a typeface similar to handwriting, while the back has the same word written with upper/lower case lines. This makes it easy to sort the cards into different piles and for the teacher to see the same word that the student is seeing.
- 100 sentence cards containing 200 sentences are written exclusively with words from the word cards. Each sentence card has a sentence on the front and a different sentence on the back. Use these to test your learner's comfort level with identifying words within the context of a sentence.
- Again, these are NOT sight words! We carry a complete line of sight word products that should be used after your learner has become comfortable with these phonics cards.
